In the early 1980s, German singer and developer of the Alhambra del Mar urbanization, Roy Boston, coined the expression “Golden Mile”. It’s still used today, to refer to the stretch between Marbella and Puerto Banús, and is synonymous with luxury and exclusivity.
The Golden Mile is home to the legendary five-star hotels Marbella Club and Puente Romano, the former residence of the late King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, prestigious restaurants and beach clubs, nightclubs and an entire world of leisure and glamour.
The infrastructure, it goes without saying, is first rate, with countless road connections and a promenade that spans the entire coastline.
Apartments and villas on the Golden Mile
The Golden Mile has two defined sections: the beach side and the mountain side.
- The beach side is a fully developed area, with apartment complexes, luxury villas and townhouse estates, including urbanizations like Alhambra del Mar, with its signature Mediterranean style. Las Cañas Beach offers quality flats on the promenade. Las Torres de Marbella Club has luxury villas with private access. El Ancón is a complex of small, charming villas, on the beachfront. Oasis, built in the 1970s in the style typical of its times, is on the beachfront. Playa Esmeralda is home to luxury apartments and penthouses, a stone’s throw from the beach and at the heart of the Golden Mile.
- The mountain side is a prolongation of the growth that started years ago and is also home to luxury villas, apartment complexes and townhouse estates. Throughout this area, you’ll find urbanizations like Monte Paraiso, with its elegant style, and the fantastic luxury villas of Sierra Blanca. Costa Nagüeles, Los Pinos de Nagüeles and Cortijo Nagüeles are all located at the heart of the Golden Mile and very near the city centre. Las Lomas de Magna Marbella offers wonderful luxury villas in a gated complex, with surveillance. La Virginia village has a restaurant, La Tienda, and all the charm of an Andalusian pueblo. Meisho Hills was one of the first modern complexes on the Golden Mile. Imara, with its spacious and bright apartments, offers stunning views. And, of course, we mustn’t forget new developments, like La Meridiana Suites, Epic and Corona de Nagüeles.
