The origins of San Pedro de Alcántara lie in a farming community founded in 1860, by the Marquis of Duero. 12 houses were spread out across the meadow, and these slowly began to grow into groups, to form the early town centre. San Pedro de Alcántara is part of the municipality of Marbella. Its first town council was established in 1984, when the position of deputy mayor was created. This meant that locals could avoid a trip to Marbella for their official dealings. Talk to Benarroch Real Estate before you buy a house in San Pedro de Alcántara.
Since those days, the town of San Pedro de Alcántara has developed alongside Marbella. It now goes from the coast and promenade, to the south, to the AP-7 motorway, to the north. From east to west, it lies between the rivers Guadaiza and Arroyo del Chopo. San Pedro de Alcántara is home to the areas we’ll described for you below.
Cortijo Blanco is on the west side of the Guadaiza river, and goes from the beach to the N-340/A-7 road.
This area is primarily home to little villas with pretty gardens, near the beach and every type of service, given its proximity to San Pedro de Alcántara town centre and Puerto Banús. You’ll also find various apartment complexes and townhouses there.
This peaceful residential area has everything nearby.
West of Cortijo Blanco, you’ll find Nueva Alcántara. Urban growth is budding in this zone, where apartment and penthouse developments proliferate, in addition to townhouse complexes. As you might expect, the highest quality is to be found in the ones nearest the beach, like Bahía Alcántara, Casablanca Beach and Las Adelfas, whose meticulous central gardens envelop swimming pools, creating serene and exclusive settings.
There are also new projects to build designer villas, like Perlas del Mar. This residential complex will have 10 luxury villas, in a private, gated community, a stone’s throw from the beach, Nueva Alcántara Paddle and Tennis Club, and the town centre.
In the coastal section of San Pedro de Alcántara, Linda Vista Baja is furthest south east. This quiet area is characterised by medium-sized villas and townhouse complexes, in a serene setting with spacious beaches, beach clubs like Bora Bora, and several chiringuito beach bars lining the shores.
North of Linda Vista Baja, on the other side of the N-340/A-7 road and west of San Pedro de Alcántara town centre, Linda Vista Alta is a residential area with villas of different sizes, built on large plots, with quiet, little-used streets. The town centre is a short walk away.
The Guadalmina area is in the vicinity of Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, a golf club with two 18-hole golf courses, the North course and the South course. Guadalmina Baja is the part between the N-340/A-7 road and the beach, surrounding the South course and with Hotel Guadalmina Spa Golf Resort as its main landmark.
The properties in Guadalmina Baja are characterised by luxury villas that line the golf course, and residential complexes of townhouses and apartments with elegant design.
The area northwards from the N-340/A-7 road up to the end of the North course is known as Guadalmina Alta.
The properties there are also luxury villas, townhouse complexes and apartments, in a peaceful, distinguished setting, with a similar urban layout to Guadalmina Baja. The main difference between the two areas is the atmosphere, with Guadalmina Baja being nearer the sea and Guadalmina Alta enjoying an ambience fitting to its proximity to the golf course.
In the northernmost part of San Pedro de Alcántara, leaving the town centre and heading towards the road to Ronda, you’ll find a special residential complex: Las Cancelas de La Quinta. This townhouse complex is at the start of the road to La Quinta Golf course.
