In addition to being a city known internationally for its wide range of high quality hotels, magnificent beaches, first class services and excellent infrastructure, it also has a great gastronomic offer headed by the Michelin stars restaurants in Marbella. Do you know them?
In Marbella we are fortunate to have three Michelin stars awarded restaurants located in the streets of our wonderful city, without detracting, of course, from the rest of the restaurants that also offer magnificent menus with very good quality products.
By way of introduction, it should be noted that the awarding of Michelin stars is done according to established criteria based on the quality of the dishes, not on the comfort or decoration of the restaurant. Its classification can be summarised as follows:
The Michelin stars restaurants in Marbella are:
We start with the restaurant Skina awarded with two Michelin stars, the second one being awarded this year 2020.
Skina is located in the old town of Marbella, in a small premises, founded in 2004 by Marcos Granda and his wife. Its chef, Mario Cachinero, works spectacularly with seasonal products demonstrating his high technical level offering a creative cuisine based on traditional Andalusian cuisine.
The Skina restaurant’s wine list is full of wines from all over the world and from small producers, with old vintages.
We continue with the restaurant Messina distinguished with a Michelin star since 2016, located in one of the main streets of Marbella near the beach. Messina was inaugurated in 2003 by its owners Pia Ninci and Mauricio Giovanini, its chef.
Its menu offers the best variety of local products such as fish and seafood, based on Iberian, Oriental and South American flavours prepared with great technique with which you discover the origin of the flavour in the juices of each product.
Finally, the restaurant El Lago located in Marbella East, in the urbanization Elviria Hills, specifically in the clubhouse of Greenlife Golf Marbella in front of its great lake that gives its name, has the recognition of a Michelin star since 2005 and currently has maintained it again.
Paco García, its director, opened the restaurant in 2000 and its chef Juan Jose Carmona, from Fuengirola, prepares a cuisine based on local products, applying his creativity to obtain dishes with unique flavours and textures.
We cannot finish this article without mentioning the Dani García restaurant, awarded three Michelin stars in 2018, which, although it has already finished its journey, has been a reference point for Andalusian cuisine in the world. Now, in the words of Dani García himself, “I want to feed thousands instead of hundreds”, he is going to develop the idea of expanding his cuisine by opening restaurants of his firm all over the world.
